market america review

Summary: Unfortunately, Market America is just a pyramid scheme in disguise with a very steep startup cost. Your main goal is to recruit as many people as you can because that’s where most of the money is. But stats have shown that majority of the members had failed with this business and over 90% of them got themselves further into debt.

What is Market America?

Market America (aka Shop.com) is a Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) company in which participants pay substantial fees for unnecessary products & training materials to supposedly learn how to sell overpriced products in exchange for a very skimpy commission.

Market America describes itself as a product brokerage and internet marketing company.

This is how Market America works…

They don’t manufacture or produce a single product they sell.

Instead, they partner with companies around the world and offer these companies’ products on their website for sale.

That’s why they called themselves a “product brokerage”.

But why do people want to purchase stuff from them instead of buying directly from the product companies straight?

Because they claim that you can earn Cashback if you purchase through their site, which means you can save some money.

This is somewhat similar to another MLM company called Lyoness which is also a shopping community based around Cashback.

Market America Product Line

Market America sells a really wide variety of goods.

They have millions of products and services from well-known companies like Target, Nike, Apple, and many more.

These are some of the product categories they have:

So, what’s the link between Market America & Shop.com?

Initially, Market America used to sell their products on their main website MarketAmerica.com.

But in late 2010, they acquired shopping comparison firm Shop.com from Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, and started using this website for their retail sales.

And currently, MarketAmerica.com is their official website which contains all the information about their company, their business model and how to join them.

But all the transactions are done through Shop.com.

That’s why people nowadays use the name “Shop.com” more often despite it’s the same as Market America.

How to Make Money with Market America?

Previously we only talked about the background and the basic concepts of Market America and Shop.com.

But what most people are interested in is actually their business opportunity and how to make money with this business.

Market America is a MLM business because it’s all about recruiting people into the business and building your downlines if you want to make money.

There are 3 main ways for you to make money with Market America:

  1. Earn Cashback from your own online purchases or your customers’ online purchases
  2. Earn Retail Profits by selling Market America’s products to customers (30-50% commission)
  3. Earn Residual Income by recruiting people and developing your binary downline teams

But before that, we need to first understand how to join Market America and qualify for these commissions…

How to Get Started with Market America?

RED FLAG WARNING!!

The startup fee of Market America is $399 with a monthly payment of $129/month.

The subscription include:

Basically, it’s a Starter Kit which consists of some essential training and materials to help you get started.

Honestly speaking, these are some extremely expensive startup costs my friend.

$399 + $129/month is crazy!

And that’s not the end…

Every now and then, distributors are also required to spend $130 to $300 on Market America’s products.

There are also paid seminars and training events which cost between $20 to $200.

Market America Compensation Plan

Market America calls their compensation plan “The UnFranchise Business“.

But it’s nothing special. It’s basically a binary compensation plan where you need to recruit people and place them on the right and the left to earn residual commissions.

Market America Ugly Truths Revealed!

1. Pyramid Scheme in Disguise

Market America is not a pyramid scheme. If it is, it should already been shut down long ago by FTC.

However, their compensation plan rewards recruiting distributors over the sale of products.

In fact, it’s really hard for you to make a sustainable income by just selling the products.

Like Jeunesse, It Works, LifeVantage and many other MLMs, what Market America’s distributors really learn is that it’s not about selling the products, it’s about getting others to join the system.

In order to make any significant amount of money, they must convince others to become distributors like themselves who have paid fees for training materials and get billed for monthly shipments of products.

That’s why I said Market America is not a pyramid scheme, but a pyramid scheme in disguise.

My guess is that they are using Shop.com as a cover to hide their real scam – selling you the false belief that you could make it big if only you follow their instructions and give them your money.

With Shop.com, it makes their business to be more like an E-commerce kind of thing. That’s why it’s pretty controversial and hard to determine whether Market America is a scam or not.

2. Extremely Expensive Startup Cost

Like I’ve explained earlier on, these are the costs you need to invest for this business:

This is a pretty huge financial burden for many people who wants to make money and are just starting out.

So, I really don’t recommend you to waste money on this especially what you’re learning is all about how to recruit more people life I’ve explained earlier on.

P.S. This program that has enabled me to generate a 4-Figure Monthly Passive Income at just 21 years old is FREE to get started and only cost $49/month fee to go full-time!

3. Brain-washed Members

One of the main reasons why Market America is such a successful company so far is because they adopt cult-like practices to “brain-wash” innocent victims and keep them pumped-up & engaged.

I know these are some serious accusations which will be very controversial.

So, why do I say this?

Because JR, the founder of Market America, is not just a great salesperson who sells products. But he’s even better at “selling beliefs”.

That’s why they have lots of regional meetings or large national events where they invite motivation speakers to make their distributors really excited, confident and pumped.

They’re also good at leveraging success stories and testimonials to showcase how ordinary people’s lives have been changed through this recruiting business.

That’s exactly why most distributors continue to believe in Market America and keep throwing money into it despite they’re getting themselves further and further into debt.

And by the way, these are the insider information my friend who left Shop.com told me.

She was one of those who kept spending lots of money to purchase unnecessary products and attend seminars believing that everything would get better if she continued to hustle.

4. Lawsuits After Lawsuits…

Due to its controversial business model, Market America was hit by various lawsuits over the years.

I’m not going to list out all the lawsuits they had gone through here because you can read up yourself online for that.

But more importantly, there were cases which accused Market America for operating as a pyramid scheme. This is expected as their main focus is always recruiting.

Not long ago in 2017, they were hit by one of such pyramid scheme lawsuit. If you’re interested, you can read up yourself on that as well.

5. Most People FAILED!

My friend had first-hand information on this.

She knew exactly that most distributors are actually suffering including those in the leadership ranks because she was one of them.

People in the leadership ranks would be invited to speak and share their “success stories” at company events.

But the reality was that all those seemingly glorious achievements couldn’t help you pay the bills and put food on the table.

Many times they needed to spend lots of money themselves to purchase products just to advance in ranks or meet the requirement.

That’s why they could be really poor even though they were in the leadership rank sharing “success stories”.

In fact, over 90% of Market America distributors average net losses.

A lot of people have complained that they invested 20K or 30K into the company but could not even earn 10 per cent of their investment.

The main reason people are suffering in this business is because of the:

Most people are unable to meet the sales requirement because the products are crap or they’re too expensive so they have to buy it themselves to inflate the sales numbers.

If not, they cannot stay in the system and earn commission off their referrals.

In the end, it is these overpriced products that are putting more and more financial burden on their own distributors.

What I Like About Market America…

To be honest, there’s really nothing I can praise Market America for, especially after going through all those ugly truths about the business.

But just to be more balanced, here’s one good thing about Market America…

1. Leveraging Online Marketing

The company see the benefit of the Internet that’s why they invested to acquire Shop.com.

Seeing from this perspective, it’s at least better than those MLM which totally rely on the traditional recruiting where you need to host home parties and invite your friends and family.

I hate those stuff. I’m sure many of you do as well.

Is Market America a Scam?

No, Market America is not a scam because they have real products and services to offer.

Having said that, it’s really really hard for you to even make a profit as a Market America distributor.

And I’ve clearly explained to you why most people are actually suffering from this business.

Let’s just do a quick recap:

  1. The startup and recurring fees are really expensive
  2. You have to keep on recruiting people to make money
  3. There are very demanding sales requirements to meet in order for you to stay active and qualified
  4. Products are overpriced and you have to purchase them most of the time just to meet the sales requirement

So, please stay away from Market America or Shop.com.
